Not many things remind me of being a kid quite like skipping. As far as memories-everyone-can-relate-to go, I would put it right up there on the same level as the Home Ice Cream van, Art Attack and coloured zinc cream. Maybe that’s why I don’t find skipping to be too much of a chore… even when I’m whipping myself around the ankles and swearing
loudly under my breath, I can’t stop grinning….
I want to let you in on a little secret… there’s no such thing as being ‘naturally fit’. Fit people are just regular people who make a conscious decision to get fit, and to do the best they can for their body and mind. It’s not always an easy decision, but fit people know that being fit, healthy and happy is the best reward out there….
So I was just flicking back through my last few posts (I know, I know, I’m an egomaniac) and I noticed that it’s been a really long time since I’ve posted a workout – let alone a HIIT workout – on here. Kind of awkward, given that it’s a fitness blog, right?
We’ve all skipped out on a workout or two in our time, but when excuses becomes the rule rather than the exception, it’s time to take a look at those excuses, why you’re using them and how to overcome them and re-discover your workout motivation….
Happiness is a funny thing. Have you ever actually sat around and wondered what happiness is and how to be happy? Sometimes it feels big. And sometimes it’s just a teensy tiny glow in your heart. Sometimes it’s expected. And sometimes it comes completely out of nowhere and you’ll find yourself randomly thanking your lucky stars for all the amazing things you have in your life.
Easter egg hunts. Hide and seek. Marco Polo. Boiled eggs with toast soldiers. Tutus. Mum making dinner. Trampolining.
Seriously. We can’t keep letting kids have all the fun. Recently my 8-Week Challenge girls and I decided to make a stand and take back what is rightfully ours, with a trip to Skyzone in Alexandria. You think you know trampolining? You know nothing until you’ve been to this place….
I love a new pair of shoes as much as the next girl, but I do have a few prerequisites. They’ve gotta be versatile enough to wear with different outfits for one, and a little pop of colour is always a winner. Oh and they need to be comfortable enough to get me through hours of bouncing around, obviously. Comfort is key.
OK, maybe I should be more specific: I love sneakers….
AMRAP. For some reason this acronym always reminds me of a sandwich. Probably because I spend a large portion of my life thinking about food. Unfortunately for us all though, AMRAP is nowhere near as delicious as my breaded friend. Quite the opposite… much better for you though….
Kate Kendall is kind of a big deal in the yoga world… so much so that even I (one of the un-yogiest people in Sydney) know exactly who she is and admire her from afar – in a completely above-board and non-creepy way. The co-founder and Director of Yoga at Flow Athletic in Sydney’s Paddington, Kate’s approach to yoga is inspirational but still accessible – she’s hosted a couple of events I’ve been to and has a knack for making even total novices like me (I struggle to touch my toes and my downward dog looks kind of like a basset hound having a fit) feel really comfortable. And – lucky us – today she’s taken time out to share her thoughts on how to add yoga into a fitness routine….
