SKINS have been around for pretty much as long as I can remember. They were invented in 1996 by an Aussie skiier who wanted to live the dream (i.e work all day and party all night) and be able to wake up the next day and do it all over again. He started with the basic knowledge that improved blood circulation meant more oxygen to the muscles, ensuring they could work harder for longer and recover faster and – after consulting with NASA and a range of other experts – SKINS were born….
Compression gear has come along way since I bought my first pair of (extremely high-waisted and very unflattering) Skins about a decade ago. But one thing that doesn’t seem to have changed too much is the price – it’s hard to find a pair floating around that won’t set you back upwards of $130. I live in my gym clothes, so on a cost per wear basis I could probably spend my life savings on a pair of tights and still come out ahead, but for many people that’s not the case.
