Cacao, Date & Cranberry Balls

bliss ballsIt’s no secret that I have a bit of a sweet tooth. A whole mouth full of them actually. But given everything we know about refined sugar and the effects it can have on the body (immune system suppression, tooth decay, unstable moods, ageing skin, weight gain to name just a few) I try not to eat too much of the stuff. Emphasis on the too much – no point pretending I’m perfect.

Another At-Home Dumbbell Workout

sydney
We had yet another stunning weekend here in Sydney, so what better way to spend some time than out in the backyard (or on the balcony) with a little LGF workout. As we’ve discussed previously in this blog post here, there’s a lot that can be done with a set of small-ish dumbbells and your own bodyweight.

8 Tips for When You Don’t Feel Like Working Out

jump.happyEarlier this week I had a question from an LGF follower. She said that she’s been struggling to find motivation for her cardio sessions, and asked if I had any tips. The more I thought about it, the more tips I came up with… so much so that I thought the topic deserved a blog post of its own… and here it is!

It’s a fact of life that not every workout is going to be one you look forward to. Whether it’s a style of training you hate or one particular exercise that has you running for the hills, I’ve got a few tips to help you make it through your session unscathed.

My New Favourite Workout

fave workoutI’ve got a new favourite workout.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve had a few days where I’ve been lacking my usual drive to get stuck into a high intensity circuit. I don’t really know why… I think I’ve just been feeling tired after some busy weekends away. Anyway whatever the reason, rather than force the issue, I’ve adapted my workouts a little, turning them into something a little more palatable.

One of my friends has spent the last few of months training for a Big Event. It’s the kind of Big Event that requires both physical and mental fortitude, the kind of Big Event that pushes you outside your comfort zone and then some. She’s been training like a trooper – hours on the road, in the gym and in the yoga studio – to ensure her body is in peak condition when the day of the Big Event arrives.

Simple 20-Minute Gym Workout

workout
Annoying fact of life: sometimes you don’t have an hour to fit your workout into – heck, sometimes you don’t even have 30 minutes. I found myself in this situation recently when I had an hour-long lunch break into which I needed to fit a workout plus do some shopping for my brother’s birthday.

LG Motivation – The Shrinking Hubby

Sometimes a story comes along that is too inspiring not to share. For me, this is one of those stories.

A few months ago (when LGF was just a twinkle in my eye) I was toying with the idea of starting a health and fitness blog and chatting to a good friend of mine, Clementine, about it. Clemmy mentioned a fabulous blog called The Shrinking Hubby, full of clean, healthy and (most importantly) simple recipe ideas. I’m always on the lookout for new meals to add to my limited repertoire, so as soon as I got off the phone I was onto the internets to check it out.
