In less than three weeks my brother will be marrying the girl of his dreams/love of his life, and I’m lucky enough to be one of the bridesmaids. The dress I’ll be wearing is absolutely gorgeous, and I think the best way to do it justice is a little bit of extra upper body work to ensure svelte arms and shoulders on the day.
I couldn’t have all the workout fun on my own though – that just wouldn’t be fair! Yep, I figured that if I was going to up the ante on my own upper body workouts, it made sense to put together a wedding workout that all of you wonderful people can do with me. After all, pain shared is pain halved (fyi I have no scientific evidence to back that up). Whatever, here it is:
The Bridesmaid’s Upper Body Workout
Push-ups x 12
Burpees x 2
Side raise to front raise x 12 each
Burpees x 2
Pull ups x 12
Burpees x 2
Bicep curl to shoulder press x 12
Burpees x 2
Tricep dips x 12
Burpees x 2
Punching with weights x100
Burpees x 2
[Repeat four times]
Ideally you’ll have a small set of dumbbells for this workout, but if not just grab some tinned tomatoes / packets of flour or sugar (unopened!) and use them instead.
When it comes to working out women often neglect the upper body, but trust me; there’s something VERY satisfying about being able to lift heavy or punch out toe push-ups without breaking a sweat. And (contrary to popular belief) getting stronger doesn’t have to mean getting bigger.
What am I trying to say here? Oh yes, don’t be afraid to ditch the occasional cardio session in favour of one of my strength workouts. This upper body wedding workout is a good place to start!
Let me know if you need any more help with the exercises and have fun!
p.s Apologies for the lack of photos… looks like I’ll have to con someone into taking some more for me this weekend!
