Christmas is a most excellent time of year in the fitness industry. It gives personal trainers the world over a chance to theme their workouts and plan awesome sessions that involve chimney climbers, reindeer games and North pole lunges. It allows us to develop Christmas quizzes, punish you with burpees for incorrect answers and force to you hop around like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Ah yes, as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t get any better.
Last week I put together a workout based around the 12 Days of Christmas and given that there are now exactly 12 days until Christmas, now seemed a good time to share it. It’s a simple one for you to do at home once you wrap your head around the concept. Let me explain.
- Like the song, the workout is cumulative
- i.e in the first round (the first day of Christmas) you’ll complete ONE rep of the first exercise
- This is followed by a 100m sprint then jog back to your starting point
- In the second round, you’ll repeat ONE rep of the first exercise, then perform TWO reps of the second exercise
- This is followed by a 100m sprint then jog back to your starting point
- In the third round you’ll repeat ONE rep of the first exercise, TWO of the second and THREE of the third exercise
- This continues all the way through to round 12 (the 12th day of Christmas) where you’ll perform every single one of the exercises for the allotted reps.
Geddit? Complete the workout for time, and try it again just after Christmas to see whether you’ve improved.
