Well.
A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to check out the awesome new UFC Gym Sydney in Alexandria AND I’ve got a membership to give away RIGHT HERE ON THE BLOG THIS WEEK! More on the giveaway later though, first let me tell you about my experience.
Having been to a number of classes plus worked out on my own a few times now, I can safely say that UFC Gym Sydney is up there with the best gyms I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. The place is HUGE; 3,200 square metres of awesomeness including a free weights area, group exercise studio, functional training area, youth training centre, kids club, martial arts studios, rooftop training area and more. So. Much. More.
Before my first session I started to have a few doubts – would I fit in? Was everyone going to be MMA mad? Were they going to laugh at my boxing ‘skills’? Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised to discover that while the space is big, it’s not intimidating. It’s one serious gym, but somehow it manages to avoid taking itself too seriously. There’s an obvious focus on hard work and good technique, but there’s also a lot of smiling (mostly through pain) and plenty of friendly people. On my first visit I noticed the gym manager chatting away to members as he did his rounds AND I struck up a conversation with a fellow member in between sets. That gets a huge tick from me; working out in a positive environment is absolutely essential if you’re going to stick it out and reach your goals.
I have to say though, the thing that excites me most about UFC Gym Sydney – and differentiates it from the competition – is the massive array of classes on offer. From Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, wrestling and Muay Thai to yoga, Daily Ultimate Training, Tabata and Killer Core, there really is something for everyone (check out the full timetable here). So far I’m a big fan of DUT (which teaches you to train like an athlete) and Tabata – both high intensity classes designed to make you step things up a notch. And I guarantee you that if you want to learn mixed martial arts, this is the place to do it. The trainers are phenomenal – they really walk the walk – plus the gym plays host to international UFC superstars on a regular basis, often offering workshops to members and the public.
Overall, I can honestly say that I am loving this whole experience. My only gripe really is that I don’t live a little closer because I’d love to sneak off to even more sessions! If you want to check it out for yourself (and not pay a dime!) read on.

UFC – by far the best place to reach my fitness goals because nothing screams “fit and sexy” quite like doing handstands on the edge of a high bench. End of.
Not for the faint hearted – UFC means business!
Great piece and pictures LGF!!
Best place to reach my fitness goals by providing a challenging but fun place to workout. I do love an unconventional gym!
I’d love to get a taste of UFC! I’m not the most conventional exercise fiend – I’m always looking for something different – a challenge and UFC Gym Sydney looks like the perfect place to smash out my new health and fitness goals.
