When you’re 600 reps into a hellish 700-rep workout, dripping with sweat and your muscles screaming in pain, it can be difficult to remember exactly why it is that you exercise at all. Ever.
So as a sort of pre-emptive strike against my next (usually internal) vitriolic rant about burpees, I thought I’d put a little list together with some of the things I love about exercise – thoughts, feelings and just general bits and pieces to remind me that it ain’t all bad…. in fact, mostly it’s pretty darn good!
THE LIST:
Head clearing
Makes you feel strong
Freedom
Headphones in and it gives me some alone-time
Or grab a friend and it’s a healthy way to stay social
Satisfaction
Lululemon Run Inspire tights
Lululemon Speed shorts
OK, just Lululemon
Total body exhaustion
Clearer eyes and skin
Sense of achievement
Focus
Better sleep
New friends
Positivity
Sweat
General desire to eat better…
But guilt-free lollies when I need them!
Getting PBs
Squat jumping on a Bosu ball
Running around Sydney Harbour
Nike Flyknit trainers
Sense of camaraderie – even when training alone
Learning
Strong backs
Reaching goals
Kicking ass and taking names
Kettlebells
Teaching
Going fast
Stretching
Confidence

There are a million fantastic things about exercise, and the things you love about it probably aren’t the same as the things I love about it. So do yourself a favour – make a list of YOUR favourite things. Write it on a whiteboard, type it into your phone or pin it up in your room somewhere. It really doesn’t have to be long – it’s just a little something for you to look at while you’re curled on your bed in the foetal position after a particularly hard HIIT session. In fact, you should share your list with me in the comments section below!
Go on; do it. You’ll thank me later!
