Sometimes, getting your recommended daily intake of water can seem like such a chore. And with soft drink companies and so called ‘healthy drink’ manufacturers spending huge marketing dollars to lure you in, it can be far too easy to cave into that little voice in your head telling you that a bottle of Fanta would go perfectly with your lunch.
Well I’m here to say STOP! Put down that glorified sugar cube!* There’s a simple way to ensure you’re guzzling your 2+ litres of H2O daily, and it’s called the Wherever Water bottle, made by full circle. I got one for Christmas and I’m totally in love.
The key feature of this 590ml glass bottle is the built-in lemon reamer on top. You can use it to ream lemons, limes, orange and berries; or make fruit and herbs combinations like lime and mint! For some reason, water always tastes better out of glass, and the plastic lid and silicone base gives you a little bit of comfort should you accidentally drop it (and as anyone who’s seen my iPhone will tell you, that’s a distinct possibility for me). It’s also BPA-free and made by a company who pledges to monitor the environmental and social impact of their factories and products. Winning!
So why is it so important to drink lots of water? Well, the human (adult) body is composed of around 50 — 60% water, although this obviously fluctuates based on factors such as weight, gender, age and fitness level, as well as environmental factors and exercise. Even a small percentage drop in hydration can affect your energy levels, concentration and tiredness. Basically, if you want to function at optimum levels, you need to stay hydrated!
I’ve been starting my day with a squeeze of lemon in warm water for a while now – I tend to drink a glass before Lou and I head out on our morning walk. Now I get the joy of citrus water all day long! I generally drink four bottles (or just under 2.5L) throughout the day and I find a single lemon or lime will get me through. I just cut the fruit in half, throw it into a container and take it with me!
If I was going to be critical, the one thing I would change about the Wherever Water bottle is the size of the mouthpiece — it’s slightly small, so I find myself tipping my head back to an unnatural angle to drink. I’ve also heard someone complaining about the lid hitting them in the nose when they drink, but this has never been an issue for me (maybe they had a really big nose?).
The bottle itself looks really cool and comes in a range of colours, so it’s a great gift idea. I don’t know where mine came from, but I’ve tracked down a couple of places you can buy it online, so I’ll pop those addresses at the bottom of this post. In short; if you find drinking water tasteless or an inconvenience then I recommend giving this a go…
Because moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty.
(please tell me you got this reference?)
* Occasionally, a glorified sugar cube is exactly what you need though. Not often…. But we’ve all been there and there’s no point denying it.
