Given that it’s Valentine’s Week (is that even a thing?) I thought it was as good a time as any to announce that I have found true love. Let me reassure you though; the object of my affections is not a man, nay, it’s not even human. In fact, the very thing that has my heart all aflutter doesn’t even have a heart of its own.
Let me introduce you to the plyometric box.
Originally designed to help improve your explosive power and speed, these fun and functional boxes have myriad other uses, a few of which I’m going to show you today, and more of which I’ll show you down the track!
As you know, I’ve been restricted to lower body and core stuff of late, so the workout I’ve put together here reflects that. I do plan on putting together a bunch more workouts based around the plyo box in future, but this is just a little something to whet your appetite!
35-ish Minute Lower Body & Core Workout with Plyo Box
{50 secs per exercise | single limb exercises, 25 secs/side | 10 secs change-over time}
Box Jumps
Bicycle
Weighted step up with knee drive
Leg raises
Bulgarian lunges
Plank
Fast feet on box
[rest 2 mins between circuits | repeat circuit four times]
Plyometrics can be a little daunting, and not generally the best choice for exercise newbies. If you’re unsure, grab a trainer at the gym (or the park, the beach or on LGF) and book in a session! They’ll help you find your confidence and you’ll be jumping and skipping your heart out in no time at all!
Fall in love with your workouts this week Team!
