As a personal trainer, scoring an invite to the launch of a new gym/wholefoods store/insert-healthy-pursuit-here is probably a bit like a normal person getting invited to the opening of a new cocktail bar. Pretty darn exciting.
So with that in mind, you can imagine just how stoked I was to be invited to check out Performa Nutrition’s brand new supplements cafe in Waterloo last week.
Sorry, what is a supplements cafe? I hear you ask. Excellent question.
Basically, the Performa Nutrition supplements cafe takes a new approach to health, combining scientifically researched supplements and vitamins with a range of nutritious, organic wholefoods to create a menu that is innovative and nutrient dense.
“In an ideal world, we would eat a healthy and nutritious diet packed with natural greens and lean protein. But in reality, few of us get all the nutrients our bodies need” is the way that Performa Nutrition marketing manager Rhys Dal Cin puts it. He says that’s essentially why they opened this cafe, integrating supplements into the menu to ensure customers are eating a nutritious, balanced and supported diet.
The menu has been designed in conjunction with the team from Bondi hotspot Henley’s Wholefoods, who deliver to the cafe fresh each day. The menu changes daily, inspired by what suppliers have available and what local farmers can produce, but there will always be a protein salad and vegetarian salad, chia pots, protein balls and other dairy-free, gluten-free, sugar-free clean treats. Cold pressed juices will be supplied by Botanica and caffeine addicts can rest easy – there’s plenty of delicious, organic coffee to get your heart started.
I was super impressed wih the space itself. It’s not huge, but it’s got a relaxed, comfortable vibe – cool but not intimidatingly so. As you’d expect, the walls are lined with all of Performa’s favourite products and the staff are all knowledgable, friendly and more than willing to help.
After a long day at work and a massive gum session, the idea of entering the kitchen to cook for yourself something to complement all your hard work can just seem all too hard. If that sounds like you, a trip to the Performa Nutrition cafe on Danks Street could be just what the trainer ordered!
Check it out and let me know what you think!
