The (not-so) Lazy Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s Day

So, it’s the day before Valentine’s Day and you haven’t planned anything for you and your sweet little shnookums yet. Well, I might be a single girl who’s plan for the big day consists of hanging out with my lady-husband at the Open Air Cinema, but rest assured, that doesn’t mean I can’t help you out with a few excellent Valentine’s Day date ideas. They may not be your regular flowers and chocolates, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be romantical in their own way.

I present to you…. the Not-So Lazy Girl’s Top Six Valentine’s Day Activities.

1. Go for a Bush Walk

There are plenty of amazing walks within a stone’s (providing you’re really REALLY good at throwing) of Sydney. And what could be more fun than packing some picnic supplies into a backpack and heading off into the relative wilderness with your pooh-bear? If you’re not lucky enough to live in the vicinity of anything remotely bush-like then play pretend – pack a picnic and head into an inner-city park, or set up in your own living room!
Check out this article on five of Sydney’s best bush walks here.
And this one on some of Brisbane’s best.

2. Start your day with a workout
No, not THAT kind of workout. Training with your sweet cheeks can actually be a whole lot of fun. Plan something that you can do together; work together and encourage each other. Cos being in a relationship is all about teamwork, right? That’s what I’m told, anyway.

3. Cook at Home
Prefer to gaze into the eyes of your darling boyfie in the privacy of your own home? Then ditch the restaurant and cook something this year instead. Why not start your day with a trip to the fish markets (one of my fave places in Sydney – not joking). Pick up some oysters (ooo errrr you know what that means) and some fresh salmon and whip up something deliciously aphrodisiacal.

4. SUPping
Not so complicated that you feel like a dufus doing it, but not so basic that you feel like you’re wasting your time, stand up paddle boarding is the activity of the summer here in Sydney. There are plenty of cool places to do it (Rose Bay seems to be a fave in my circle) and you definitely don’t need to be a pro to try it. Plus, if you fall off, your stud-muffin can just dive right in and rescue you.

5. Dance-Off
Things don’t get any better than a dance-off in your own living room. Pop on some awesome music, grab a bottle of wine and shake that booty with your cupcake. This suggestion also works well for all of the single ladies out there…. in fact I would almost go so far as to say that a solo dance party trumps a couples dance party, but I’ll let you be the judge.

6. Spend the Day Indoors
You know what I’m talking about…

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY LOVERS! There you have it. My six top not-so-lazy ways to spend Valentine’s Day. To be honest, most of these can be done with or without a partner, or you could sub in a friend if you’re a bit lonely-and-looking-for-love-in-all-the-wrong-places at the moment. Whatever you decide, remember that love rules, ok?!

p.s My name is Jess, I’m an Aquarius, and I enjoy long walks on the beach and cosy nights by the fire. Call me.
