KIDDING (that would make me the worst personal trainer ever).
You whip up a smoothie of course!
Smoothies are delicious and have the potential to be pretty darn nutritious, provided you use the right ingredients. Here’s the top five reasons that I love them.
It’s an easy way to hit your fruit and vegetable target for the day
Feeling like you just can’t get through the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables? According to the team at Raw Blend, the average smoothie has around six serves of fruit and vegetables. Imagine trying to eat that in a single sitting! Throw it into a blender though and it’s a whole different kettle of fish. Or glass of nutrients as the case may be.
Voila – meal on the run
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day (hello metabolism kickstart!) but we also know that your bed can be pretty persuasive in the morning. Throwing a few pieces of fruit and veg in the blender and running out the door takes about five minutes, which is a heck of a lot less time that you’d normally spending making something nutritionally sound. You are welcome.
Because you’re adding in whole fruit and veg you’re giving yourself a hefty dose of fibre, which will help keep you feeling fuller for longer. Throw in a scoop of your favourite (natural) protein powder and you are set!
They protect trace minerals and enzymes
Vital enzymes and minerals found in fruit and vegetables can be destroyed during the cooking process. Juicing and blending protects the enzymes, and it’s a fact that a protected enzyme is a happy enzyme!
They reduce sweet cravings
It’s not exactly a secret that I have a sweet tooth, and a smoothie is an awesome way to eat well AND treat those cravings at the same time. There is seriously nothing more delicious than frozen banana, and when you throw in some zucchini, spinach, coconut water and a little ice? (Healthy) heaven in a bowl!
