The Christmas period is one of my absolute favourite times of the year. I know plenty of people take issue with the decorations on display and the carols being piped through stores pre-December but if you ask me, November onwards is fair game for anything festive!
The double edged sword of this time of year is that my social calendar goes from just-passably-enough-friends-to-get-by to holy-shit-when-am-I-going-to-find-time-to-breathe. I feel like this is probably the case for a lot of people out there. Or maybe everyone is more popular than me and they just don’t want me to feel bad about myself… either way, I am very aware that this time of year wreaks havoc on our fitness regimes. Late nights result in skipped training sessions, Christmas lunches turn into Christmas dinners which turn into another day without seeing the inside of a gym, and so on and so forth. Before you know it, it’s January and New Year’s resolutions become popular because drastic change feels like the only option.
The good news is, it doesn’t have to be this way. Research proves that just 10 minutes of exercise per day can have a positive impact on your health, happiness and overall fitness. This December, I encourage you to take up the 10-a-Day Challenge. Every eight days I’ll be posting your upcoming challenges here on the blog. Every day will feature a unique 10-minute challenge. It could be upper body, lower body, core or some kind of hellish combination of the above. Only bodyweight exercises will feature (so no excuses) and every day the expectation is that you’ll push to your limits during that 10-minute period.
Oh and one more thing: the 10-a-Day Challenge is not to REPLACE your current exercise routine, rather it’s a little bonus for your body during this time of excess. On the days you’re already working out, you’ve got a perfect 10-minute finisher. And on the days that you can’t get to the gym/Pilates/pool etc, you’ve got yourself 10 minutes of intense exercise that will get your heart rate up, your blood pumping and keep you on track until the new year.
Kick off is December 1, and the first post will go up tomorrow (Monday), so you’ve got time to prep! Make sure you’re subscribed to the blog (in the top right hand corner) to stay up-to-date with the Challenge, and keep me posted on your progress across social media using the hashtag #LGF10aDay
MERRY (ALMOST) CHRISTMAS TEAM!
