As anyone who has been following this blog for a while can attest, I go through phases of desperately trying to be a yogi. I mean, I WANT to like yoga. I understand the benefits, I know my body needs it, lots of people I know love it… but my god I find it a struggle to get through an entire class without my brain exploding.
So when an email landed in my inbox inviting me to come along to an event hosted by YogaBar, I wasn’t too sure how I felt. But as I flicked my eyes over the email, I started to get a little excited. See, this wasn’t any old yoga class, this was a yoga class overlooking Bondi Beach, with a live electronic violin accompanying us through our downward dogs AND organic wine to drink post-class. Count. Me. In.

It was a pretty magical evening, with everyone settling onto their mats just as the sun began to set over North Bondi. The class was led by world-class instructor Sunshine Zerda (and before you ask; yes, that is the actual best name in history) with the supremely talented international violin artist QLVN bringing the cool tunes and the good vibes. The class itself was entirely enjoyable – I found it much easier to stay in the moment than I usually do, and I’m attributing this mainly to the music… it was just so different to any other yoga experience (yo-sperience?) I’ve had.

The class was the first in the V-Series, brought to you by YogaBar. It’s a range of events designed to break boundaries and make fitness and wellbeing accessible and enjoyable for everyone (which is also my ethos, nearly word for word). Their next event is a Yoga Rave, to be held in their Westfield CBD studio on May 4.
YogaBar
Little fun fact for anyone on the lookout for what’s on in Sydney: there are currently six YogaBar studios across Sydney, offering a range of classes including yoga (obvs), Pilates, meditation and barre (amongst others). You can learn more about it here, if you’re interested.
