Don’t Feel Like Working Out? Read this.

Earlier this week I had a question from an LGF follower. She said that she’s been struggling to find motivation for her cardio sessions, and asked if I had any tips. The more I thought about it, the more tips I came up with… so much so that I thought the topic deserved a blog post of its own… and here it is!

It’s a fact of life that not every workout is going to be one you look forward to. Whether it’s a style of training you hate or one particular exercise that has you running for the hills, I’ve got a few tips to help you make it through your session unscathed.

Is this you?

Why Can’t We Be Nicer To Each Other?

One of my friends has spent the last few of months training for a Big Event. It’s the kind of Big Event that requires both physical and mental fortitude, the kind of Big Event that pushes you outside your comfort zone and then some. She’s been training like a trooper – hours on the road, in the gym and in the yoga studio – to ensure her body is in peak condition when the day of the Big Event arrives.

LG Motivation – The Shrinking Hubby

Sometimes a story comes along that is too inspiring not to share. For me, this is one of those stories.

A few months ago (when LGF was just a twinkle in my eye) I was toying with the idea of starting a health and fitness blog and chatting to a good friend of mine, Clementine, about it. Clemmy mentioned a fabulous blog called The Shrinking Hubby, full of clean, healthy and (most importantly) simple recipe ideas. I’m always on the lookout for new meals to add to my limited repertoire, so as soon as I got off the phone I was onto the internets to check it out.

Things I Have Learned from Dogs

I have a dog calendar on my desk. A friend of mine gave it to me for Christmas last year, so every single day I get to flip a page and discover a new puppy. About once a week the adorable doggies also have some words of wisdom to share with me. They’re wise little guys, reminding me that life is pretty awesome. Anyway, this daily flipping of the dog calendar got me to thinking… what else can we learn from dogs? Well, as it turns out, plently! I’ve gathered some quotes that matched the Lazy Girl Fitness ethos (and rang particularly true for me on a personal level). And while the quotes themselves may not have come directly from the mouths of our canine friends, you can bet that they epitomise the sentiment better than any human could ever hope to. So happy Friday, and enjoy!

The many colours of Lululemon shorts

The many colours of Lululemon shorts

I don’t want to jinx this run of great weather, but it really does feel like spring is in the air. And while most normal people will be looking forward to digging out their cute skirts and summer maxi dresses, it’s my running shorts and racer-back singlet tops that I can’t wait to get into.

My Top Five Gym Frustrations

Exercise: love it or hate it, there’s no denying that it’s good for you. But there are some things about a trip to the gym that can drive even the most dedicated gym-bunny to want to knock their head repetitively against a dumbbell. Here are my top five gym frustrations.

LGF 28-Day Abs Challenge – Starts Today

I don’t think I’d be going out on a limb here to say that we all want better abs and a stronger core. Trouble is, by the time most of us get to the end of a workout, there’s no time for anything more than a few token sit ups (if that). I’m one of the worst offenders out there when it comes to skipping ab-work, so I thought I’d throw down the gauntlet to myself – and anyone else who wants to join me – and commit to a 28-day program designed to improve core strength and yes, achieve better stomach definition.

I know I know, it’s a little vain. And perhaps, given the pain my super-tight hip flexors give me, you could also call it a little stupid. In fact, that’s pretty much what my physio did when I told him, although his exact words were a little kinder – ‘have I taught you nothing?’ Sorry Nick.

Anyway, onto the challenge itself:

LG Motivation – Bev Robinson (yup, my mum!)

Most of us have taken a break from exercise at some point in our life. And no matter the reason (injury, new job, laziness, having children or any other shift in priorities) there’s one thing that can be guaranteed – it’s REALLY difficult to get back into it.

So when that ‘break from exercise’ turns into decades and becomes a way of life, how do you find the motivation to turn things around? Well, today I’m talking to a very special lady who did just that. She also happens to be the world’s best mum, and she’s mine, so hands off.

My 10 Favourite Exercise Excuses

Excuses for not exercising are the best. They’re fun, imaginative and – much like the old ‘dog ate my homework’ trick – they’re also completely transparent. Here are 10 of my favourites, as well as some rebuttal for you to use next time you find yourself in an internal argument about whether or not you’re going to the gym.
