So, you don’t feel like working out today? Well, it would seem you’re not alone. According to the 2011-12 Australian Health Survey, a whopping 63% of Australian adults are classed as overweight or obese, which would indicate that there’s a heck of a lot of people out there forgoing exercise in favour of extra sleep, boozy lunches, longer work hours or any other of the myriad excuses that us personal trainers hear daily.

Lazy Girl Me

June 20, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness 2 Comments

lazygirlme2
It has been brought to my attention over the last few weeks that I am not necessarily what some people might consider a lazy girl. Now I don’t deny that (it’s all right there on my ‘about’ page) but I did think it was worth giving you a little more insight into why – with all the options out there – I went with Lazy Girl Fitness, and what it means to me. Let me start by giving you a few facts:

Five Memorable Training Moments

June 13, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness 2 Comments

Training ruts are a terrible thing. One moment you’re feeling motivated, together and strong and the next you’re wondering why you bother to eat well and exercise at all. When these negative feelings threaten to surface I find it’s a good idea to try to focus on all of the positive things that have come from your training – people you’ve met, goals you’ve achieved and adventures you’ve had. So today I thought I’d take the opportunity to reflect back on five of the most memorable and influential training moments I’ve had as a trainer, and as an individual.

City2Surf Training Tips

June 11, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness 1 Comment

It’s a little under 11 weeks until the 2013 Sun-Herald City2Surf, and people all over the country are starting to panic a little. Why did I enter? Is there enough time left to train? Do I really have to wear a Spiderman costume? Well folks, the answers to those, and many more questions, will be answered in today’s post.

Interval Training

June 10, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness 12 Comments

By now there’s a fair chance you’re aware of my love for High Intensity Interval Training – and in my defence, what’s not to love about a workout that’s time-efficient, burns big calories (for up to 24 hours after you finish your workout!) and helps increase your aerobic capacity? Truth is though, this extreme level of intensity is not for everyone, and in many cases, regular interval training is going to be challenging and effective enough for you to get results.

Getting ready for some running intervals – on of my fave session types!

Baked Mustard Chicken with Coconut Vegies

June 6, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness 3 Comments

Cooking has become a little bit of a process for me these days. Every meal must now be photographed at different stages during preparation, then plated up and vetted for taste before I can consider whether it makes an appearance on the blog. Given that I am neither a talented photographer nor cook, you can imagine the number of rather average meals that I’ve been serving up lukewarm of late.

Lazy Girl Eats – THR1VE

June 2, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness 11 Comments

UPDATE: Since my original post, THR1VE has, well, thrived. With stores now in Sydney and Canberra plus 3-4 more due to open across the country in 2014, my prediction of world domination seems to be eerily correct. [Sidenote: I really should go into fortune telling]. The team is currently hard at work recipe testing (what a tough job) with a new menu launching early in the new year. If you haven’t been in to check them out yet, I suggesting getting on it, stat. Well, read my blog post first, then…. stat.

When you lead a busy lifestyle, good nutrition is often the first thing to suffer. The irony of this, of course, is that good nutrition is what sustains you when you feel like you’re being pulled in all directions. Now, I don’t profess to eating well all of the time (My name is Jess and I’m a sugar-addict) but I am making a concerted effort to eat better, more often. Enter THR1VE in Sydney CBD’s MLC Centre.

7 Winter Fitness Essentials

May 30, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness 1 Comment

Sometimes the right sportswear can make all the difference to your training. There’s nothing worse than sports bras that chafe, tights that wear holes in unfortunate places or shoes that give you blisters – and we all know that in the depths of winter, any excuse is a good one to stay in bed. Lucky for you I’ve got a little sportwear obsession – I’m the kind of girl that goes out to buy a dress and comes home with a new pair of tights and three singlets instead. In fact, I’ve probably owned more pieces of sportswear than you’ve had hot dinners and today that comes in handy because I’m going to share my winter favourites with you. You’re welcome.

Three of my faves – tights, top and shoes!

LG Motivation – Kate Russell

May 28, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness 4 Comments

I want to introduce you to a very special friend of mine who has kindly agreed to do a guest post this week. I met Kate Russell almost three years ago when I started leading an outdoor training session with her and some of her work colleagues. She is one of the most caring, friendly, motivated and just all-around awesome girls I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and I love her dearly. This year Ruski decided she wanted to take things up a notch and entered her first half marathon. I thought it would be amazing for her to give you a little insight into her preparation, dedication to training and the race itself – if you’ve ever thought about doing one yourself, this may be just the inspiration you need!

Quick and Nasty Gym Workout

May 26, 2013 By LazyGirlFitness Leave a Comment

Recently, a colleague asked for my thoughts on weight training. She’s thrown herself into an exercise regime, but the weights component is starting to bore her. She’s still using the program that was designed for her (and I use the word ‘designed’ loosely) when she signed up at the gym. You know the one – three sets on a chest press machine, followed by three sets on the rower, followed by snooooorrrrrrre.

A workout you say. Are you sure we couldn’t just cuddle?
