You know what’s enough to turn even the most hardened among us into a quivering mess? Tabata. It’s bloody hard work – let’s just get that out of the road up front. It’s four minutes of what equates to pretty much hell on earth, but also kind of fun in a sucky way (if you’re a masochist) and seriously good for you, for a bunch of reasons I’ve outlined just here….
Advanced Workout 2
Wow. What a heartbreaking start to the week we have had in Sydney. My heart goes out to the hostages, their families and friends, particularly those who were killed when the Lindt Cafe siege reached a climax in the early hours of this morning. The shining beacon of light in this terrible tragedy has been the #illridewithyou campaign, a show of solidarity and peace between Australians, and a beautiful reminder that we can – and will – stand as one, regardless of race, religion etc….
Advanced Workout 1
So we’re less than three weeks from Christmas, and – if you’re anything like me – that means you’re out a little more, drinking more, eating differently and just generally not in your usual routine. That’s ok though – you need to have a little fun in your life (or even a lot!), it just means you might need to work a little harder in the gym for the next couple of weeks to keep that balance.
From now until Christmas, I’m going to post an ‘advanced’ workout each Sunday night. That’s three workouts designed to challenge you, make you sweat and burn some of those pesky extra calories.
These workouts are not for beginners though, nope nope nope. So as always, consult your doctor if you’re unsure whether they are suitable for you.
Here’s number 1, give it a whirl and let me know what you think!
Partner Workout – Bodyweight & Boxing
During the week, finding the time to work out can be tough. I’m generally up before 6am, but between walking Lou, full-time work, PT sessions, netball and attempting to have a social life, from Monday to Friday my workouts tend to be the hard and fast ones I can fit in my lunch break. By the time Saturday rolls around I am super excited to be able to plan a workout for myself that’s longer than 30 minutes, plus I get to train near the beach and – the most exciting part of all – I get to work out with a partner!…
Tabata Living Room Workout
Most of the time, I really enjoy working out by myself. I don’t tend to have many issues with motivation – I’m pretty happy to just get in and get my workout done. I know that’s not necessarily the case for everyone though – overwhelmingly, my clients tell me that they see me because they never really push themselves when training alone.

The Eight-Minute Christmas Pudding Workout
Firstly, Merry Merry MERRY Christmas! Secondly, do not curse me for posting a workout on Christmas Day. I PROMISE I am not trying to guilt you into working out on this glorious occasion, I’m not even suggesting I’ll do it myself. I am merely providing you with a quick workout that can be slotted in between courses SHOULD YOU SO NEED IT to (hopefully) avoid the customary undoing of the top button on your shorts. …
Tabata of Terror
What a weekend! Between Christmas catch-ups, play dates with Lucy and Panda the gorgeous greyhounds, the beginning of the Advent Calendar Challenge and my first visit to UFC Gym Sydney, I am EXHAUSTED. Lucky for you (unlucky for you?) not too exhausted to put together another good old LGF workout for you to partake in….
Full Body Kettlebell Workout 1
Kettlebells are one of my favourite pieces of fitness equipment. Compact, versatile and oh-so effective, I can’t remember life as a trainer before them. One of the things I love about them is that you can design a whole workout using only a couple of bells. This means that you can set yourself up in a space on the gym floor and not have to worry about fighting people for the cable machines or treadmills. Or – if you prefer to work out in the comfort of your own home – it means that for a small investment you’ve got yourself a mini gym!

Adventure Race Workout 2
A couple of weeks ago I shared with you my first adventure race workout. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should. And if you have tried it, congratulations – you win a gold star and a ticket to round two!

Glute and Leg Workout
Dust off your summer frocks and dig out your swimsuits my friends, because this Friday is the shortest day of the year. In practical terms it mightn’t mean much (Saturday brings us just one extra second of daylight) but to me, it means everything. In fact, call me an optimist or just call me crazy, but I’d go so far as to say that as of next weekend we’re on the downhill slide to summer.
