These days I’ve become much better at listening to what my body is trying to tell me. If I’m having a flat day I’ll program myself a less intense gym workout, if I’m feeling a bit rundown I’ll up the greens and supplements in my diet and if my body wants a little chocolate – well, as you know by now, I give it that too. But there’s one area I really fall down in, and that’s running.

So in case you hadn’t noticed, since the Tough Bloke Challenge a week ago I’ve developed a little thing for adventure races. Getting down and really really dirty with mates can be quite a bonding experience, but one thing I’ve learnt is that ordinary workouts simply don’t prepare you for knee high mud, monkey bars, tyre-jumping, rope climbing and wall clambering. No sirree, this kind of hell deserves it’s own special kind of training.
My brother and his fiancé have been visiting for the past few days which is super cool for a lot of obvious reasons, but one thing I wasn’t counting on was how awesome it is to have someone to train with. Generally I’m more than happy to train alone but I’d forgotten what a positive effect a training partner can have on your session.

I have a confession to make. Despite all my good intentions, I did not manage to fit either a run or a circuit session in today. I know, I know, I’m as disappointed in myself as you are. Actually I’m not really. The thing is, Sunday exercise is a bit of a bonus session to me. I try to make sure I’m never reliant on it because let’s face it – it’s the day I’m most likely to get caught up with other more pressing items like seeing friends, having brunch, sleeping and shopping.
